Julie Higgins Formby, DVM

Dr. Formby, an Adamsville, Alabama native, first became acquainted with Sand Mountain Small Animal and Equine Hospital in early 1995 as a senior Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine student completing her practical education.
After graduation she went on to practice in Birmingham, Huntsville, and various cities throughout Mississippi. She was commissioned as a veterinary corps officer in the Mississippi Army National Guard in 2003 and served four years on active duty in support of the Global War on Terrorism. She retired from the US Army Reserves Veterinary Corps in 2024.
Dr. Formby has two children, Ella and Pierce, and is at an all-time low on pets with one senior cat named Lily. Pierce is an especially active boy interested in music, art, and church. He is a student at Grace Classical Christian Academy in Albertville.
Ella went to be with the Lord in 2013 and Ella’s Light Children’s Ministry was founded in her memory that same year. Dr. Formby is the founder and active director and treasurer of the ministry that bears her daughter’s name.
