Endoscopy
Sand Mountain Animal Hospital is pleased to offer its clients a non-surgical diagnostic method for various internal issues through the use of endoscopy. Endoscopy is a minimally invasive method of visually inspecting the esophagus, stomach, and upper intestines. An endoscope can be used to identify areas of narrowing (stricture), ulcers, tumors, foreign bodies in the stomach, and in some cases, biopsies for further testing.
The endoscope itself consists of a long tube usually with a flexible tip that contains a small camera and is controlled by a knob on the handpiece that the veterinarian can control. If endoscopy is warranted, your pet will undergo anesthesia. Following the relatively quick procedure, your pet may be released that day to go home.
